What is a SGD?

Speech Generating Devices (SGDs) are computerised devices that produce speech sounds (such as words or noises) for the individual through the device. 

There are a variety of different types of SGDs available to individuals including:

SGDs are a common form of aided High-Tech AAC system used by individuals with many different types of CCN. 

SGDs are able to be modified to fit the needs of the individual as are options to make modifications to elements such as: 

SGDs have been shown to be a good option for individuals who have very limited (or no) verbal usage but who have a good level of understanding when spoken to (i.e. their receptive language is stronger than their expressive language).
